In Novo Mesto there are plenty of historical sites to visit: the Chapter Church, the Franciscan monastery with its ancient library and the Jakac House which houses a permanent display of works by one of the greatest Slovenian visual artists. Also interesting is the Lukenjska Cave near Prečna (15 km), which served as a dwelling for Stone Age people.
